Visitor Services Associate

Part Time Schedule – 16 Hours per Week:
Monday – 9am to 3pm
Friday – 10am to 3pm
Saturday – 10am to 3pm

Starting Pay – $12/hour

Job Description

General Expectations:

Represent ESHM with professionalism, ethics, integrity, and mutual respect towards visitors and colleagues.

Position Overview:

The Visitor Services Associate is responsible for ensuring a positive ESHM guest experience. As the first and last staff member to engage most visitors, you must provide a high level of customer service and be responsible for a broad range of activities including selling museum admission and memberships, engaging with visitors in the exhibit spaces, retail store sales and monitoring, and other Visitor Center and Gift Shop tasks as needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Visitor Services

  • Provide a friendly and informative first impression to guests upon arrival
  • Respond to questions about the museum facility, exhibits, programs, and operating hours
  • Direct visitors to specific museum exhibits or areas of interest
  • Assist with set-up, registration, and guest management at events and programs
  • Address visitor issues and complaints in a professional manner
  • Process payments accurately and following proper cash handling procedures
  • Ensure the visitor area is tidy, well-organized, and accessible
  • Provide up-to-date information regarding local events, services, restaurants, lodging, and experiences to current and prospective visitors via phone and in person
  • Manage inventory of local business brochures and contacts for restocking
  • Maintain daily visitor log within the Visitor Center, and compile monthly and annual visitor traffic reports
  • Track inventory of facilities supplies, and communicate restocking needs to the Director in a timely manner
  • Assist in training of Visitor Center and Gift Shop volunteers

Gift Shop Services

  • Track Gift Shop inventory and communicate restocking needs to the Director
  • Ensure store displays are current, neat, maintained, and well stocked
  • Adjust merchandise to compliment seasonal trends, exhibits, and programming
  • Assist Director with ESHM Online Web Store order fulfillment

Museum Responsibilities

  • Support the regular care and maintenance of exhibits
  • Support setup and teardown of onsite events and programs
  • Perform clerical tasks to support administrative operations as needed
  • Assist in facility maintenance as needed and report larger issues
  • Additional duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in customer service, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable interacting with diverse ages and audiences
  • Strong computer and point of sale (POS) skills, with cash handling experience
  • Able to work independently, and in a dependable and punctual manner
  • Sound knowledge of local tourist attractions, facilities, and activities
  • General knowledge of local history and the willingness to learn more

Work Environment:

  • General retail/museum environment; extensive interaction with the general public
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing stairs
